About the Senior Games:
In 2021, the Muskogee Parks and Recreation department, Muskogee Golf Club, and Oklahoma State Games joined forces to start the "Muskogee Local Games." The inaugural games hosted Golf, Bowling, Pickleball, Swimming, Tennis, Cornhole, and Horseshoes.
The National Senior Games started in St. Louis, MO, in 1985 as the "National Senior Olympics Organization," later changing its name to the National Senior Games Association in 1990. Athletes qualify for the national games by participating in their state games the preceding year. Local games like ours work with the state games, which are open to out-of-state residents and attract athletes from surrounding states.
Hosting local games in Muskogee motivates our seniors to achieve a greater level of health and draws in competition from surrounding areas or statewide athletes looking for events prior to state games. These games encourage people to set goals, stay in shape, participate in their favorite sport, and provide social opportunities.
