About This Event

In 1928, a Cherokee farm boy ran the entirety of U.S. Route 66 – Los Angeles to Chicago – and onward to New York City. The halfway point for that era’s biggest sporting event was Claremore, Oklahoma. Most of the field of world class runners included participants from over 24 countries could not endure the 84 grueling days of the 3,423 mile Trans-Continental Footrace. The Mother Road crossed through the Mojave Desert and wound along vast plains, offering blistering heat, sleet, and snow. Only 55 runners would cross the finish line to Madison Square Garden. Andy Payne won the race 16 hours ahead of them all. Location:Claremore High School201 E. Stuart RoosaClaremore,OK74017 For more information, contact:www.claremoremoh.org/andypayneroute66
